people still flipping shit about galliano. christ. there are actual problems in the world that don’t involve a mentally ill man being drunk and saying things he should not have said. coco chanel was a nazi sympathizer and widely-known anti-semetic yet she remains one of the most romanticized and beloved figures in fashion. there exist vast racial inequalities/underrepresentations in every aspect of fashion. and there are so many flaws in the way fashion portrays women and girls - fetishizing the female form and idealizing youth to impossible extents. perfection in the fashion industry is a 110-lb 5’11” 16-year-old white girl with blond hair and blue eyes. examine that before you completely trash one of the greatest designers of his generation. it’s natural to be offended by his comments, obviously. but you could make a massive list of things that are wrong with fashion that go beyond the scope of one single human being’s comments on one single occasion. galliano has apologized multiple times for his remarks, and the anti-defamation league has accepted his numerous sincere apologies. nobody cares that his predecessor at dior only casts vanilla ass white women, and nobody really called him out on those weird vaguely sexist remarks he made in australian vogue. completely ignore women of color? you’re solid. make one drunken anti-semetic remark while you’re being secretly video-taped? ur done.
